Based in Baguio City, Bumbo Villanueva is an active harbinger of art and considered as one of the more prolific and dynamic visual artists in the Philippines today. His 30 years of experience in this field has made him carve his own niche.

As a sculptor, he is focused in promoting the indigenous roots of the different tribes in the Philippines.

As a performance artist, he combines spirituality and our root race expressing the very soul of man’s coexistence with the environment.

As an art educator and a father, he is dedicated in preserving the vanishing traditions of the tribal community so that his children’s children would know their roots. He is constantly working with different sectors of the community (out-of-school youth, children in conflict with the law, young scholars etc.) and has continuously spearheaded and participated in various social and cultural activities such as “The Earth Day Chalk Drawing” and “SUN-PAYAN” – a community art installation of over 600 Sun drawings of children. He is currently an art teacher of an on-going Alternative Learning System for the out-of-school youth in Baguio City, a mentor for other aspiring young artists/sculptors and is active in doing art activities to help calamity victims among others. You can see his evolution as an artist through his list of exhibits and art performances since 1997.

But, more notable is the challenging trek of life that he has conquered through his years of existence. His true success lies in his undying trust to his Maker through the trials he has encountered and that he has went beyond art as a mere means of material gain. He has vowed to continuously share his art to the community and to the people. He believes that we are the greatest masterpiece of God. His artworks mirror a more personal and deeper meaning of faith. He is truly a “Sculpture of God”.
